Slide Ranch's Family Farm Day is an exciting 3.5-hour program, 9:30am-1:00pm, featuring goat milking. As the weather turns colder and we welcome the holiday season, enjoy a morning at Slide Ranch with our goats, sheep, chickens, and ducks, and then warm with hot teas made from garden herbs picked fresh. Create a unique salve with herbs and herbal infusions from our garden to take home.

Appropriate for all ages

Join us in our Farm to Table Teaching Center Kitchen and learn about the art of fermentation! This 2.5 hour workshop includes materials and instruction on making kimchi, sauerkraut, and pickled red onions. Fermented foods can aid in digestion, building a healthy immune system, and boost energy. At the end of our workshop, you will leave with your flight of fermented treats and new knowledge and inspiration to continue fermenting and preserving food at home! 

Fermented foods are a great holiday gift!

We’ll start with a sunset happy hour on the bluffs, sipping local wine and seasonal cocktails, enjoying farm-fresh bites, and immersing in the sweeping ocean views.

As the light fades, with just 30 seats at the table, we’ll gather inside our Farm to Table Center, overlooking the Pacific and warmed by conversation and candlelight. Chef Lily will prepare a vibrant, multi-course meal that celebrates the flavors of the season - featuring wine pairings and fresh produce from our gardens plus ingredients sourced from local farms.

Mindful slow birding is a different take on classic birding that allows us to truly take in and appreciate our surrounding environment. Birds are by far the species we interact with most in our daily lives. Developing naturalist skills focused on observing habitat, behavior, sounds, etc. advances our relationship with nature. Hone your appreciation for the outdoors through a birding lens here at Slide Ranch! Bring your own binoculars if you have them.

Up your gift giving game by participating in or gifting a Goat Milk Soap & Natural Salve Making Workshop. This unique workshop utilizes Slide Ranch’s fresh, raw milk from our beloved goats to create a luxurious moisturizing soap. We will explore the basics of soap making, materials and safety in the process, and the importance of curing. To create unique natural salves, we will harvest and infuse fresh herbs from the garden. This two and a half hour workshop includes all materials and supplies and you will take home one of a kind gifts. 

Please bring protective eye-wear! Please also note that you will be able to bring your homemade salve home immediately after the workshop. Slide Ranch staff will mail your soap to you once it has fully cured (this can take 4-8 weeks).

Calling all food lovers! Taste the bounty of Slide Ranch with farm-to-table harvesting, cooking, and delicious fun. Activities: We're making homemade focaccia, cheese, popcorn, tea, and holding tasting tours! Additionally, you'll have the opportunity to spend time with our chickens, ducks, goats, and sheep.

Join us outside at Slide Ranch as we hike the site and make our own natural watercolor pigments as we go! In this workshop, you will learn a creative approach and method to making watercolor pigments while in the field–learning how to successfully extract pigment, bind paint, and alter colors with iron or alum—actively engaging with our environment in a creative, exciting way. Pause for moments of reflection and painting along the way, as you begin to fill your new nature journal with the hues of foraged plants!

Explore the many methods of composting we employ here at Slide Ranch and learn how you can begin or expand your composting at home. We'll explore source materials and gets hands on with building, turning, sifting and ultimately adding compost to the garden. From worm bins to compost lasagna, you'll leave with a deeper understanding of the value of compost and (we hope!) be inspired to start your own compost adventure at home.
