Clif Bar Volunteer Day
A Single Day. 350 Volunteers. A Year’s Worth of Impact.
On a foggy June morning, 350 Clif Bar employees rolled into Slide Ranch by bicycle, car, and bus for the company’s annual Project 2080 volunteer day. Since 2001, Clif Bar has pledged to give back the equivalent of one full-time employee’s yearly hours—2,080 hours—through hands-on service. Their all-company volunteer day is designed to inspire employees with an impactful, memorable, and well-organized experience.
A Day Built for Service and Connection
Volunteers split into 20 teams led by Slide Ranch staff and leaders from Volunteers for Outdoor California (V-O-CAL). They immediately got to work on projects including:
- Building garden beds
- Clearing trails
- Painting signs
- Weatherproofing cabins
- Repairing fences
- Cleaning up the beach
- Assembling seed packets
- Spreading mulch—everywhere!
By late morning, they had already transformed major sections of the Ranch. Volunteers took a break for lunch, hiking to Dome Meadow for a boxed lunch with sweeping ocean views. The group gathered for remarks and a companywide photo to commemorate the day.
A Mini-Makeover with Lasting Impact
After lunch, volunteers jumped back in painting, digging, trimming, sawing, clearing, and crafting. By 3:00, Slide Ranch had undergone a remarkable mini-makeover: a new footbridge, refreshed trails, rebuilt fences, organized program materials, weatherproofed housing, new garden beds, and a Ranch-wide infusion of mulch—so much mulch the whole place smelled amazing!
The day ended with celebratory ice pops from Pop Nation, heartfelt goodbyes, and deep gratitude from our staff. In total, the work completed was equivalent to three full-time staff members working for an entire year—an extraordinary contribution. Beyond the physical improvements, the spirit of collaboration and service made the day unforgettable.
A Shared Commitment
Clif Bar and Slide Ranch share a long history and a deeply aligned mission. In 2013, Clif Bar athletes visited Slide Ranch as part of their Athlete Summit and even raced wheelbarrows filled with compost. The Clif Family Foundation has generously supported our educational programs for low-income youth from the East Bay, where Clif Bar is headquartered. The company’s Five Aspirations—Sustaining Business, Brands, People, Community, and the Planet—beautifully mirror Slide Ranch’s values.
With thousands of calories burned, new friendships made, and years of work completed in a single day, Clif Bar’s Project 2080 Volunteer Day at Slide Ranch was truly extraordinary. We look forward to more days of partnership, purpose, and impact. Thank you to everyone at Clif Bar—you were remarkable. We hope to welcome you back to Slide Ranch soon.
