What we teach

"Slide Ranch taught me how people can live harmoniously and sustainably with their environment. These people living at Slide Ranch are finding ways to solve modern problems with sustainability. They live their solution. It makes me want to start living the way they demonstrate. It is very inspiring to see people living off their own resources."
– Karen Whitestone, Redwood High School

One of the special aspects of Slide Ranch that sets the organization apart from other teaching farms is that our teaching staff lives full time at the facility; they don’t need to commute, they grow much of their own produce and use the goat milk, eggs and other farm products to make their meals. They are intimate with farm and the surrounding coastal environment, creating a model of sustainable living that is integrated with the teaching curriculum. When our teachers interact with the participants in this special setting, they are “walking the talk.

"The hands-on guidance and encouragement that the Slide Ranch group leaders provide really motivates our children to try new things, open their minds, and expand their understanding of nature."
