Letter from the Founder

Dear Friends,

Thirty-six years ago, I discovered an old family dairy farm on the Marin coast called Slide Ranch. Its absentee owner was hoping to raze it and build a new hotel. I knew then, as I know today, that this unique coastal property deserved better - that it should be preserved for future generations.

A year of negotiations followed, and eventually the farm was saved. Even more important, it was transformed into a farm-based educational experience that is unique in the Bay Area. Each year, thousands of children come to Slide Ranch and reconnect to the soil and human toil that nourishes us all.

Those educational programs continue to flourish, but the ravages of weather and heavy visitor use have taken their toll on the Ranch buildings. Slide Ranch is now engaged in its most ambitious plan ever - a capital campaign to renew and rebuild the facilities that are used by its many visitors. With broad community support, and a go-ahead from the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, we are well on our way to raising the funds needed to transform the Ranch into a revitalized resource that is needed more than ever by citizens of the 21st century.

Will you join us? I urge that you do. With your assistance the Ranch will better than ever before be able to strengthen human awareness of our bonds and obligations to the land and natural resources.

Thank you, in advance, for what role you can play in this next exciting chapter in the history of Slide Ranch. I hope to see you there!
