History

In the nineteenth century, the land that encompasses Slide Ranch was a dairy farm. In 1969, through the joint efforts of Doug Ferguson and The Nature Conservancy, Slide Ranch was purchased and protected from commercial development. Slide Ranch became part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area in 1974.

Since 1970, more than 175,000 people from diverse backgrounds and areas have attended our educational programs. The year 2000 marked the 30th Anniversary of the education center at Slide Ranch. Today, we are in the midst of The Campaign to Renew Slide Ranch in an effort to rebuild our aging facilities.
